All About Us

Founded in 1954, the Radio Amateur Invalid and Blind Club is a National Society dedicated to providing help or assistance to invalid, blind or vision impaired radio amateurs and short wave listeners.

Our activities fall into three main areas: providing membership services of various kinds including the loan of suitable equipment to qualified members: the holding of regular HF and VHF radio nets.

We also produce and distribute our club magazine 'RADIAL' containing news, views, and articles of general interest concerning the activities of the club and its members.

RAIBC Membership Services
The club has local representatives in most areas, and is always in need of more, who have kindly offered to help members in their own area, when their time and ability permit, with problems concerning the installation and operation of their amateur radio equipment.

We are most grateful to the many amateurs who donate equipment to us, this equipment, where suitable, is loaned out to members, and always remains the property of the RAIBC.

Any donated equipment that is not considered suitable to be lent out, due to it's age, condition or specification is sold off for club funds at the various radio rallies attended.

When funds allow, as our income relies on the money from bequests and charitable donations, plus our own fund raising activities, then suitable new equipment is purchased. For further information go to the loan equipment page.

The Committee can offer advice to members on many aspects of amateur radio concerning the blind or disabled operator, plus detailed information about membership services.

We also operate a dedicated RAIBC HELPLINE,  that members can ring at any time.

The number to call is: 08000 141743.

An RAIBC QSL Card (size 140 mm x 98 mm) has been designed, priced at £9.00 per 100, post free, order details from the Membership Secretary.

The RAIBC has it's own e-mail group which is open to all members, supporters, and interested persons. To join this lively and informative discussion group just send a blank message to :-
