RAIBC at Blackpool

For the first time in many years the RAIBC had a stand at the Norbreck Radio Rally in Blackpool. The day was a great success as Russ Bradley G0OKD and Mandy Higton 2E1GWO reports.

We had an excellent day at the Blackpool Norbreck Rally. We were made very welcome and given a good position in one of the big trading halls. Our Equipment Manager Chris Pearson G5VZ was assisting us as were Alan Sejwacz G7MFA, and David Jones G0SDO. Their help was invaluable and they worked hard even though it was a scorching day and very hot in the centre. All of the club stalls were given one of our flyers and many application forms were taken away. Over 40 people signed our guestbook of which about 34 were members. We received a donation of £50.00 from a dress down day held at Stockport MBC plus other cash donations. We had a good chat with Dave Wilson, RSGB President and Kath Wilson M1CNY, regarding some problems a member had been experiencing. They were very helpful and supportive as usual.

However did find that despite our best efforts many people, including amateurs, still do not know who we are or what we do. We had a full day explaining the aims and objectives of the RAIBC! Officials from quite a few clubs including the Amateur Radio Masonic Lodge were most interested in our charity and took away flyers and promised to get back in touch. One of those was a Krystyna M6KSH who works for Derbyshire County Council. Krystyna works with the deaf and visually impaired and is a member of the Sheffield Radio Club. M6KSH was very interested in our activities as can be seen from this link to the Sheffield ARC All in all it was an enjoyable and busy day in Blackpool. There is plenty of work for us to do so I am sure we will be back next year!
